A data allowance is an amount of transferred data included under a plan’s rules for a stated period. It might apply to a mobile account or a VPN tier. The rules determine what is counted, when the allowance resets and what happens after it is used.

## A practical example

Suppose a plan includes 5 GB and your intended sessions use 500 MB per day. Ten days would use roughly that allowance before other traffic and accounting differences. This is illustrative arithmetic, not a measurement of any app or a promise about a provider’s counting method.

## What to check

Find the usage counter and note its value before and after a normal session. Check whether the allowance is shared across devices, whether upload counts, and whether background transfers are included. Record the reset date and the consequence of reaching the limit. A slowdown and an extra charge are different outcomes.
