Proton VPN Free automatically connects you to a free server. Paid plans offer more choice and additional features. If a specific exit location or streaming service matters to you, check that it is included in the plan you choose.

Proton’s free-plan page distinguishes its offer from VPN Plus, including paid-plan streaming benefits. Do not transfer a feature from a provider’s paid column into your free-plan comparison.

If you want free access without sharing your connection

Proton Free is worth considering if your main requirement is a provider-funded free tier. Open its current plan page and check the specific location or feature you need. A no-data-limit statement does not answer every question about selection, performance or service compatibility.

For example, someone who needs a particular exit country should establish how the free app assigns locations before relying on it. Someone who only needs an ordinary browsing session may have a different set of requirements. Write down that distinction before comparing extras.

If you are considering Zenshield’s exchange

Check the sharing explanation and the connection you will use. You give consent in the app before participation starts; it is required for free access and can be stopped at any time.

A useful question is: “Am I comfortable contributing this connection?” That includes permission from its owner and your own data plan. Your answer may differ between home Wi-Fi and a workplace or roaming connection. Zenshield’s free price does not remove your provider’s charges.

Try the task before making it your regular setup

Once you accept a service’s terms, test it on the device and network you intend to use. Complete one normal task, reconnect once and check how to get help. If you compare both apps, run them separately so one VPN does not interfere with the other test.

Record what worked, which settings you used and any unanswered essential requirement. A useful comparison might conclude “both handled my browsing task, but I prefer this funding model.” You do not need to turn that preference into a claim that one product is universally better.

What this comparison establishes

This is a comparison of published offers and Zenshield’s confirmed product model, checked on the date above. We have not performed a head-to-head speed, security or streaming benchmark. For a broader decision worksheet, use how to choose a VPN. For Zenshield setup, start with Windows or Android downloads.
