VPN problems when Android switches networks

Moving from Wi-Fi to mobile data changes the underlying connection. Identify which connection the phone is using now.

Moving from Wi-Fi to mobile data changes the underlying connection. Check that the new network works before deciding that the VPN itself has failed. Keep your data allowance and sharing consent in mind when the device moves onto a metered connection.

Work through the checks

  1. Identify which connection the phone is using now. Test in one place rather than walking between networks while changing settings.
  2. Check ordinary internet with the VPN disconnected. If mobile data itself is unavailable, resolve the mobile-plan or signal problem first.
  3. Reconnect the VPN on the new working network and try a familiar page. Record whether the app fails to connect or the page fails afterward.
  4. If permitted and practical, return to the original Wi-Fi network and repeat once. Keep the device and task the same.
  5. Note any Android VPN-related setting already in use. Do not change an organization-managed configuration without its administrator.

What you observe Next step
Wi-Fi works but mobile data does not, even without VPN Check the mobile plan and underlying connection.
Both networks work normally but VPN fails on one Report the network-specific difference.
The interruption occurs only at the handover Record the order and time of the switch.

Make the comparison useful

For example: “The same page opened on Wi-Fi. After switching to mobile data it opened without VPN, but the VPN could not reconnect.” This is more useful than reporting only that mobile access is slow.

Before changing more settings

A network handover does not establish whether bandwidth sharing has stopped. Review participation on the new connection separately, especially while roaming. Use the stop-sharing guide if you do not want to contribute that connection.

Use the support-request template if you need to send the result. The reference guidance explains the underlying network or platform behavior; exact Zenshield controls depend on the installed app version.
